CANACONA
The 78 houses which have been earmarked for demolition on comunidade land in Agonda village got a reprieve for the second time, after a court is reported to have stayed the demolition of a few houses.
It may be recalled that the 78 houses on land belonging to the Canacona Comunidade in Agonda village were earmarked for demolition by the Administrator of Comunidades (South) on April 18, following court directions on a complaint filed some nine petitioners two years ago.
The demolition drive was however postponed at the last moment after police expressing their inability to provide police security during the demolition drive as police personnel were already deployed for security arrangements at the G20 meetings in the State.
It is further learnt that the litigants later approached the court for inaction by the Administrator of Comunidades (South) and the Administrator fixed May 9 for demolition.
The decision was reportedly stayed by the court following intervening appeal/petitions filed by the affected parties.
