Thousands of litres of water went to waste when the Selaulim water pipeline ruptured at Arlem along the Eastern Bypass on Tuesday evening.
The huge fountain of water on the roadside also disrupted traffic movement on the busy road before officials intervened to plug the leak.
Officials of the Water Supply Department told The Goan that the pipeline rupture would have no impact on the supply of drinking water, since the pipeline in question carries raw water from the Selaulim plant to the Verna Industrial Estate. “We have checked that the ruptured pipeline is not supplying drinking water to consumers. The line is carrying raw water to the Verna IDC,” the official added.
Locals, however, pointed out that the rupture caused a huge wastage of water for some time before officials plugged the leak.
