Deputy Speaker Anant Shet urged people to give due honour to senior citizens, while adding that elderly people are the main pillars in creating a future generation.
He was speaking after inaugurating a seminar for senior citizens at Ravindra Bhavan, Sakhali, on Sunday. Sakhali MLA Dr Pramod Sawant, neurosurgeon Dr Premanand Ramani, Dr Venktesh Hegde, organizing committee president Dr Navnath Bhatikar, secretary Krishnaji Desai, Ravindra Bhavan vice-president Anand Kanekar and senior citizen Pandurang Govekar were also present on the occasion.
Shet expressed concern over the degrading joint family system that is leading to negligence towards senior citizens in society, and hoped that this trend reverses.
Dr Sawant informed that henceforth Ravindra Bhavan will organising a senior citizens' seminar on October 1 annually.
On the occasion, Dr Premanand Ramani also spoke on the topic 'healthy life'.
