The Aquem-Baixo village witnessed an uproar over pile-up of dry waste near the panchayat ghar and the failure of the authorities to lift away the waste over the last few days.
Sarpanch Subhash Sattardekar, however, later told the media that the dry waste piled up near the panchayat ghar after the transport contractor played truant. He, however, assured it will be cleared in a day or two by making alternate transport arrangements.
Local residents bitterly complained about the delay in lifting the dry waste stacked near the panchayat ghar and the inconveniences caused by the waste to the people.
They pointed out that the entire locality is littered with waste as stray dogs carry the bags hoping to find food items inside. “The panchayat body should clear the dump in the residential locality, which can cause a health hazard to the local residents,” they said.
Sarpanch Subhash Sattardekar said the Aquem Baixo Panchayat has approached the Water Resources Department to allot a small piece of land, which can be used to set up a dry waste station.
While promising to lift away the mound of dry waste from near the panchayat ghar, the Sarpanch said he will suspend the dry waste collection in the village till the waste accumulated near the panchayat ghar is lifted away by the transporter.
