Maharashtra Shiv Sena senior party leader and MP Sanjay Raut has hinted that Shiv Sena may have a pre-poll alliance with the Congress in Goa and Uttar Pradesh at the upcoming assembly polls.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting with Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in New Delhi, Raut said the parties are thinking of working together in both states scheduled to go to assembly polls early next year.
“It was a positive meeting. We are thinking of working together in Uttar Pradesh and Goa. Along with the discussion on the politics of the country, there were talks about the assembly elections to be held in Uttar Pradesh and Goa elections. If possible, Shiv Sena and Congress will fight the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh and Goa together.”
“We want to work together with Congress and let’s see if anything happens,” he added.
However, he said a final decision would be taken after talks with Maharastra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
Shiv Sena Goa State President Gitesh Kamat, however, said he was not aware on what had been finalised in the meeting. “We will get to know about the exact outcome once Sanjay Raut visits Goa,” said Kamat.
However, he said talks with Congress leaders were going on at the local level since the last one-and-half months and both parties may work together to keep BJP away from power.
