Senior citizen dies in road mishap at Agonda

CANACONA

An 82-year-old man died in a road mishap when the car driven by his son rammed into a roadside tree and went off the Agonda-Canacona road at Dumane on Tuesday.

According to reports, the incident took place as Mahableshwar Phaldessai, a retired teacher and fondly known as Mhablu-master, along with his son were heading towards Canacona.

In an attempt to avoid an oncoming vehicle, the son swerved the car and the vehicle hit a roadside tree, before veering off the road.

Several motorists stopped and helped the two occupants who were trapped in the car.

A police team and a fire brigade went to the site and an unconscious Mahableshwar was rushed in an ambulance to the Canacona CHC, where he was declared dead on arrival.

The son however escaped with minor injuries, police informed.

Canacona PSI Dhiraj Devidas said the body has been sent to Hospicio Hospital in Margao for an autopsy.
