The fast pace of life deprives today's humans from exploring their deeper thoughts. The journey of self-discovery, a six-day lecture series from January 28 to February 2, being organised by the International Society of Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), is a systematic and scientific presentation on the essence of the timeless Vedic wisdom of India. Through systematic and scientific data based on the essence of the Bhagvad Gita, it tries to answer the questions we all have about life.
Through six sessions, the course will offer the core themes of the Bhagvad Gita and teach us how they apply to the modern individual. These sessions aim to give a framework, with group discussions and guided journeys, that will aid one and all to personally cultivate strong spiritual habits.
The first lecture in the series called ‘Is happiness on sale?’ focuses on teaching the basic similarities and differences between humans and animals, the analysis of which helps in realising the special prerogative of human life and his ability to reason. It also offers permanent solutions to the problems of life.
The second lecture, ‘The God mystery’ tries to answer the questions regarding God. Can we logically and scientifically prove the existence of God? For millennia, saints and holy men of all religions and spiritual traditions pursued an inner calling of God, as a solution for seeking permanent happiness. Is this utopian idea for real? The session will explore this before venturing into the topic - 'who is me' which is what the third lecture is all about.
As a car cannot move on its own and a driver is required to run it, similarly, the body functions because of the presence of a driver, or the soul. The soul pervades the body with consciousness and adds the element of life to the body. What or who the soul is will be studied.
Is religion on trial? If God does exist, is he one or many? How do we explain the existence of so many religions and so many gods? What about the plethora of images and forms in Hinduism? Does God have a form or is he an impersonal light that pervades the whole existence? The fifth lecture in the series will focus on these questions. Is the world an unfair place? Can bad happen to good? This is the most popular of the six sessions which examines thoroughly the law of action and reaction, also known as the law of karma, facilitating the participants to relate to the sufferings of the world’s more soberly persons by examining the nature and the purpose of this world.
Thus, while the lessons and experiences of the first five sessions create a need for practical life management, the concluding session offers a healthy package and schedule centred on prayer and meditation - 'Life Apps - Practical Spirituality' and addresses the acutely felt need of balancing our material and spiritual roles.
