MAPUSA
The Returning Officer (RO), Mapusa, Gurudas Desai in his complaint said Arvind Kejriwal, the star campaigner of AAP, was addressing a public meeting at Mapusa taxi-stand on January 8.
“In the meeting, Kejriwal publicly appealed to the voters to accept cash from other political parties and opposition candidates but to vote for AAP on February 4 assembly election in the State and thereby violated the model code of conduct,” the RO said in his complaint.
Based on the RO’s complaint, Mapusa Police lodged an offence against Kejriwal under Section 123 (1) of Representative of People Act, 1951 read with Sections 171 B and 171 (E) of IPC.
The EC on Sunday directed the Goa Chief Election Officer to register a case against the Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal for alleged repeated violation of the model code of conduct.
It may be recalled that Goa BJP had filed a complaint with the Election Commission of India against Arvind Kejriwal alleging that the AAP chief in his address asked people to accept cash for votes.
BJP legal cell in-charge Atmaram Bharve had filed a written complaint at the chief electoral office stating that on January 8, between 6 pm and 8 pm, while addressing a public gathering at Mapusa, Kejriwal told the gathering 'some political parties will offer Rs 5,000 per vote. You ask them for Rs 10,000 per vote'.
The party had also attached a video clipping of the said speech along with the complaint.
