Efforts to contact Soumya Pandey, IAS, officer in-charge of the raiding team, failed despite visiting her office at the Mormugao Municipal Council building.
However when contacted, returning officer and Mormugao Deputy Collector Gaurish Shankwalkar confirmed that Naik’s office was being raided. “An offence would be registered and I will conduct further enquiry,” he added.
“As per the procedure, the staff will have to explain why he was carrying so much money and I will issue a show-cause notice to Milind Naik as well the staff,” he said.
“In my show-cause notice, I will inform Milind Naik and the staff that we suspect that the cash was used to distribute among the voters and why the amount should not be confisticated and why necessary proceedings should not be initiated against them,” stated Shankwalkar.
