In what could be a setback to Industries Minister Mahadev Naik ahead of assembly polls, Borim Sarpanch Deepali Naik was on Tuesday voted out of office in a no-confidence motion by 3 votes to 6.
Deepali Naik was elected as sarpanch on September 16, 2016, after Costancio Luis was ousted from his post. Though Luis was from the group backed by Mahadev Naik, he rebelled after he was ousted to pave way for Naik.
Dinesh Raikar, Nutan Naik, Jyoti Naik, Costancio Luis and Tulshidas Gawade moved the no-confidence motion against Deepali Naik and on Tuesday, Deputy Sarpanch Prashila Muli joined them to oust Naik.
This could be a setback for Mahadev Naik as a few days are left for the State Assembly elections. “Six of us are joining the MG Party,” Dinesh Raikar told The Goan.
Sources informed that another pancha from the group backed by Mahadev Naik has shown interest in joining MG Party, taking the number to seven.
It may be recalled that after Jyoti Naik was ousted from the post of sarpanch on May 16, Luis and Deepali Naik were in the fray for the sarpancha's post. Though both were from the group backed by Mahadev, Jyoti Naik and Dinesh Raikar helped Luis to win.
On Tuesday, Sanjay Gawade and Parimal Samant did not attend the special meeting convened to decide the sarpancha's post.
Hemant Gawas from Block Development Office was as the presiding officer, while panchayat secretary Prasad Naik assisted him.
