A host of departments including the Coast guard participated in the State level mock exercise on cyclone at the Colva beach in a bid to create awareness as well as preparedness on the response capabilities.
A coast guard helicopter joined the rescue operation at Colva before lifting the patient to the hospital at Margao.
Additional Collector-II, Incident Commander of the District Disaster Management Authority, Dipak Desai, district and sub-divisional officials, NDRF teams, fire brigade joined the operation on Friday morning.
Patients rescued from Colva were shifted to the district hospital. Those requiring shelter were shifted to the makeshift shelter home erected near the SAG ground, Margao.
Dipak Desai informed that the mock exercise on the cyclone has progressed as per scheduled. The authorities were in the process of evaluating the preparedness of the stakeholders, in meeting the requirements.
Colva sarpanch Suzie Fernandes told the media that the mock drill also helped the panchayat to understand how to go about when a cyclone hit the coast.
