The Bombay High Court at Goa directed the Margao Municipal Council to hold an urgent inspection of the alleged sewage discharge into the Saipem late in Margao after petitioner Antonio Alvares told the Court that “even today, raw sewage is being discharged into the fields” and offered to identify the spots where water is flowing into the fields and where raw sewage is being discharged in the fields.
The High Court, based on the offer, prodded the MMC and related agencies to conduct an inspection at 10am on Wednesday and file the inspection report before the Court before January 15.
Alvares' petition was filed in 2021 and in August last year the agencies had promised to resolve the issue at the earliest.
