Residents of Sirvodem and Navelim were on Tuesday left to wonder about the presence of a large fleet of night soil tankers before dawn on the road adjoining the Margao Sewerage Treatment plant (STP) at Sirvodem.

It was only later in the day that realisation dawned on them that the night soil tankers have come from Panaji and Vasco due to some problems with the respective STPs.

While the night soil tankers went about the job of unloading sewage in the STP, local residents complained of strong sewage odour affecting the adjoining locality.

That’s not tall. They questioned the presence of the sewage-laden night soil tankers on the road waiting for their turn to unload the sewage into the STP, throwing up issue on the movement of vehicular traffic.

A local resident Ibrahim pointed out that local residents had to contend with strong sewage odour, as he demanded action by the local authorities. “When I woke up at 5 am, I could see dozens of night soil tankers already parked on the road. When I inquired with the Junior Engineer, he said the tankers have come from Panaji and Vasco due to some problem with their STPs. In the bargain, the local residents had to suffer from the unbearable odour since morning”, he said, while demanding action.
