The Congregation of the Sisters of Holy Family of Nazareth (SFN) have paid rich tributes to its member, late Sr Fremiot, who was laid to rest on February 13.

The final rites of the departed nun were conducted during the Eucharistic Celebration at the Holy Family Chapel at Sancoale, presided over by the Episcopal Vicar (South) Fr Lucio Dias and concelebrated by about 25 priests.

Family members, relatives, close friends, sisters from SFN and people from different parishes participated in the Mass to pay their final respects to late Sr Fremiot.

Born in Seraulim on August 6, 1944, Sr Fremiot was baptized Maria Justina Gomes. Her devout parents, William Robespierre Ornelas do Rosario Gomes and Lina Teodolina Fremiot do Costa Viegas, sowed the seed of faith in their seven children.

At an early age, her brother Joe Gomes and she responded to the call of God. Sr Fremiot joined the Holy Family Sisters in 1962 and took her first vows in 1965 and committed herself totally to the Lord in 1971.

She did her studies at Mater Dei, Old Goa, in Dogmatic Theology, Sacred Scripture and Canon Law. She did her College at St Xavier’s Mapusa and completed Teacher’s Training at ACDIL.

Her 74 blissful years are blessed with various apostolates in teaching, pastoral and formation. She was a Formator for 15 years of Postulants, Novices and Junior Sisters.

Sr Fremiot served as Boarding Mistress, Teacher and Superior in Canacona, Baga, Seraulim, Verna, Old Goa, Cansaulim, Azra, Kadawal, Bambolim, Usgao and Sancole. She was a councillor for three terms.

“Sr Fremiot’s life was a living example of strict discipline and service to the poor. She welcomed the homeless, jobless, aimless and in her generosity blessed

them with their needs,” recalled Sr Sukuria, a member of the Holy Family of Nazareth congregation.

“Prayer was of utmost importance in her life and one could see her praying everyday even, if tired. Sr Fremiot was very fun-loving, sportive and always jovial. One could be very comfortable in her presence. She was a loving mother, every ready to listen and give sound advice to all. Though she suffered pain in her final days, one could always see her smile.”

“Today, the Holy Family Sisters have lost a great pillar of support and encouragement. Sisters will miss Sr Fremiot, her advice and her fun-loving nature. But it is God’s Will and we bow in humility accepting His Will and knowing that Sr Fremiot will intercede for us,” Sr Sukuria added.
