Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Kritesh Gaonkar on Monday launched the work to construct a road at Chaferan-Vasco.
Speaking to reporters during the function, Gaonkar said the demand for the road in the area had been pending for over 10 years.
“The road, which will cater to around 100 houses, has been taken up at a cost of around Rs 6 lakh. I will also take up the retaining wall which was left incomplete by the WRD to protect a natural spring in the area.”
“In 2000, there were houses but no roads and in 2005, I got a road built up here. This time after I became MMC chairperson, the residents requested me for an extension of this road and therefore and I took it up. We will take up paving and we will also take a lot of development works in the area,” said Gaonkar.
He informed that he had de-silted the Nullah in the area as councillor in 2005 and added that the WRD had earlier taken up the work of a retaining wall which was left incomplete as they had planned a culvert.
“However, people are now washing clothes in this spring water and the culvert is also not built. I will meet the WRD and insist on completing the retaining wall, while also asking them to de-silt the nullah before monsoons,” added Gaonkar.
