The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) on Monday hit out at the State government over Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s statement that the State would have to find a solution to the mining crisis and that, the Centre may not intervene in the mining crisis.
GPCC Vice President Sankalp Amonkar said it was sad that this statement meant the end of the tunnel for mining dependents who had hoped that the Centre would work out a solution.
“All people, especially the mining dependents, had faith in Parrikar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a solution, but with this statement, it has been established that the present government cannot resolve the mining issue at all.”
“All the political parties had united and supported this government to resolve the mining issue and we had also supported the mining dependents in Delhi.”
“BJP had always blamed Congress for not being supportive but despite our support and regular assurances, the State government has failed despite meeting the PM recently. This Govt is a liar and cheated the mining dependents and people will teach them a lesson,” said Amonkar.
GPCC Mahila President Pratima Coutinho accused the BJP of a major U-turn at the cost of mining dependents. Coutinho said she sympathized with mining dependents and assured to stand with them.
“I don’t know why they have fooled the people all this while, claiming that they would resolve the issue with the Centre. The Goan MPs had given fake assurances to mining dependents and sought time to resolve the issue though they were aware that nothing can be done by them.”
“Mining dependents were on a dharna and the MPs even took appointments with PM and gave promising statements. We stand with the mining dependents. The Goan MPs, CM Manohar Parrikar along with BJP party stands exposed today with the statement and this is their biggest U-turn,” said Coutinho.
GPCC Minority Cell President Urfan Mulla said the ruling legislators and ministers are not bothered about the people. “They should resign as they could not resume mining activities in Goa,” said Mulla.
