SGPDA meet deliberates on demand over market fees

MARGAO

A meeting of the South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) on Tuesday deliberated on the demand made by local fishermen, including the boat owners, ramponkars, magkars and vodekars that the PDA should not charge them fees on an hourly basis in the wholesale fish market.

The SGPDA also decided that the wholesale fish market will be shifted near the swimming pool only after the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation develop the site to pave way for the shifting.

Sources said the meeting chaired by Chairman Krishna Salkar deliberated on the demand made by the local fishermen that they should not be clubbed with fish traders, importing fish from across the State, in respect of payment of fees.

Sources in the know pointed out that the PDA has not accepted the demand of the fishermen for a levy of fixed charges for availing the market facilities. Instead, the PDA has suggested that the fishermen should be charged 50 per cent of the fees levied on the fish traders.
