The South Goa Planning and Development  Authority (SGPDA) has resumed water supply to the retail fish market  after installing a new water pump on Wednesday evening.

In the  meantime, fish vendors called on the new PDA Chairman, MLA Wilfred D’Sa  with a host of demands, including the long-pending demand to stop the  retail sale of fish in the wholesale fish market.

The PDA chairman gave the  fish vendors a patient hearing, assuring the vendors that he would study the matter before taking action.

D’Sa informed that the PDA  has procured a new water pump costing Rs 27,000 to replace the old pump  which had affected water pumping to the retail fish market during the  last five days. He said supply of tap water to the fish market, which  was affected during the last five days, was restored on Thursday with  the installation of the new pump.

The SGPDA chairman D’Sa said the  Authority has decided to take up work of cleanliness in the market  departmentally for the moment, before floating quotations inviting  private

agencies to carry out the work of sopo collection and  cleanliness.

Meanwhile, the fish vendors called on the new PDA  chairman on Thursday noon with a host of demands, with a plea to D’Sa to  resolve all outstanding issues faced by the retail fish vendors.

The  retail fish vendors had been demanding that the PDA crack a whip against  the illegal retail fish activity in the wholesale fish market, on the  ground that their business has been hit by the retail fish business in  the wholesale fish market.
