In a major development, the South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) on Thursday has decided to issue stop work order cum show cause notice to Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai in respect of the ongoing work of his office building near his residence at the Davondem bandh.
Sardesai, who is out of station, reacted to the decision by saying that prima facie, the PDA action only appears to be a political vendetta and nothing else. “Learnt from the social media that a show cause has been issued by SGPDA today. We haven’t hitherto been served with any such show cause notice, as such we aren’t aware of its contents, if any. I am out of station and we will respond to it in accordance with law only after receiving the said notice, if any. Prima facie it only appears to be a political vendetta and nothing else,” the Fatorda MLA added.
SGPDA Chairman, MLA Wilfred D’Sa and Member Secretary Ashok Kumar told the media after the PDA meeting that the PDA will issue a stop work order cum show cause notice to the Fatorda MLA to stop the ongoing work of his office building.
The PDA chairman said the action is being mooted following two separate complaints received from Perpetual Succour Da Silva and Ana Fernandes and the United Goans Foundation regarding Sardesai’s office building work. “Both Perpetual da Silva and Ana Fernandes have claimed they are the legal heirs to the property where Sardesai’s office building is coming up. They have claimed there’s no sale deed in respect of the property in question. The duo have further claimed that they are the rightful heirs of the property. There’s only an agreement for sale,” he said, adding that the PDA will also seek legal advice on the issue.
As far as the complaint lodged by the United Goans Foundation is concerned, the NGO is believed to have pointed out alleged discrepancies that the construction is coming up in violation of building rules.
To a query, PDA Member Secretary Ashok Kumar pointed out that the PDA had given the development permission for Sardesai’s office building in May 2019.
“The office building consists of a ground-plus-one-storey having a conference room,” Kumar said.
