The Chief Minister Pramod Sawant-led government on Thursday effected a bureaucratic reshuffle by which it put one of its seniormost grade I civil service officers Menino D’Souza at the helm of the crucial and troublesome tourism department.

D’Souza, who for some years presided over the trouble-torn co-op sector as Registrar, will now be expected to tackle the all-important tourism sector including the ongoing labour-related trouble with Drishti Lifesaving. The position of Registrar of Co-operative Societies left vacant with D’Souza moving as tourism director will be filled by another senior bureaucrat Vikas Gaunekar.

In another interesting transfer which has evoked much discussion in the corridors of power, the government shunted Additional Collector I (South) Prasanna Acharya as member-secretary of Ravindra Bhavan, Margao.

Acharya had previously served as Director of Mines and Geology through the aftermath of the bans on mining and the alleged Rs 35,000-crore ‘illegal mining scam’ unearthed by the Justice Shah Commission.

Other officers shifted include Siddhivinayak Naik as Addnl Inspector General of Prisons with additional charge of Superintendent of Jails, Umeshchandra Joshi as Director of Social Welfare with additional charge as managing director of Goa State Minorities Fin & Dev Corp. Ltd, Rajendra Mirajkar as Director of Printing Press, Surendra Naik as additional collector (I) South Goa, Agnelo A J Fernandes as Additional Collector (II) South Goa and Meghanath Porob as managing director of Goa State ST Finance Development Corporation Ltd.

Panchayats Directorate will have a new boss in Narayan Gad, while Gopal Parsekar has been posted as Additional Collector (II) North Goa and Dashrath Redkar as Additional Collector (I) North Goa with the additional charge of CEO, North Goa ZP.

Sanjiv Gadkar and Parag Nagorcekar have been posted as special land acquisition officers for Mopa project and the GIDC, respectively.

The orders issued on Thursday also post Sneha Morajkar as Joint Secretary to the Chief Secretary, Derrick Neto, as MD of GHRDC with additional charge of Director of Settlement and Land Records.

Meanwhile, two bureaucrats - Nikhil Desai and Meghna Shetgaonkar - have been given additional charges of Goa Housing Board’s and Official Language, respectively. Desai and Shetgaonkar will continue to hold the current positions as managing director of GTDC and DIP .
