MARGAO
The government has shunted Margao Municipal Chief Officer Sidhivinayak Naik and has posted Ajit Panchwadkar in his place on Thursday.
The transfer has come on a day when Sonsodo was again engulfed by a raging fire, even as civic officials hoped that the new Chief Officer assumes office immediately and ensures that all the logistics are in place at Sonsodo to bring the fire under control.
Sidhivinayak had twice served as the Chief Officer of Margao Municipal Council in the last four years. During his second stint in office, beginning July 2018, the Chief Officer went all out on the revenue recovery front, enriching the Margao Municipal coffers by several crores.
He had also taken a number of initiatives on garbage collection and disposal during his tenure. His name had made the headlines a couple of months ago when then deputy Chief Minister and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai had slapped his hand and flung his mobile at Sonsodo while on a site visit.
On the other hand, this is the first time that Ajit Panchwadkar will be taking over charge of Margao Municipal administration. Panchwadkar had earlier served as the deputy collector, Margao for a couple of months before he was shunted out of office.
Panchwadkar was tipped to take over the Margao Municipal administration as his name was doing the rounds in certain quarters for some time.
