PANAJI
The Sahakar Bhandar Panaji outlet was out of onions on Thursday as Wednesday’s stock sold out in record time.
Sahakar Bhandhar Panaji sold onions at the rate of Rs 110 per kg on Wednesday. “As our rates were slighlty lower as compared to market rate the onions sold out very fast and we could not get time to get new stock,” said a staff of Sahakar Bhandar.
Hardest hit are the small restaurants and hotels around the state. Said Milind Bhonsle, owner of Cafe Bhonsle, Panaji, “We are still serving Kanda Bhaji at the same price which we use to sell earlier on no profit basis. But if prices don’t go down, then we will have no choice but to unwillingly increase the rate of Kanda Bhaji.”
Another hotel owner echoed similar sentiments and said that they are bearing loss and serving Kanda Bhajis to the customers at the earlier rate only to maintain the trust of the customers.
Poor and middle-class people in Goa are having a tough time managing their kitchen as onion prices touched Rs 150 in Goa.
