PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar on Thursday said the department has identified the fault which was responsible for the frequent rupture of the 100 MLD JICA line supplying water to Salcete and Mormugao.

Pauskar further said the government would make provision for connecting the households to the sewerage network by providing installment facility to the people. He pointed out that the department has sent the file to the Finance department for approval, adding that the installment facility will be offered to the households once the file is cleared by the government.

The PWD Minister on Thursday chaired a joint meeting with officials of the PWD, Goa Sewerage Corporation and JICA along with Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, BJP leader Sharmad Raiturcar and others on how to expedite the release of sewerage connection to city households.

The meeting took note of the blockages in the network at a number of places, which has come in the way of smooth functioning of the network.

“The department has identified the fault which was responsible for the breakdown of the JICA pipeline and is working to rectify it,” he told the media, while exuding confidence that the JICA line will supply uninterrupted water supply to South Goa.

After the meeting, the PWD Minister said though the Margao sewerage network has a capacity to issue around 40,000 connections, only 9000 sewage connections have been released till date.

Saying the government has set May 2020 as the deadline to hotmix all roads, Pauskar said the meeting took cognizance of this to ensure that work of sewage connections is completed before then. “We will lay the hotmix after making provisions for the sewerage connections,” he added.

Margao MLA Digambar Kamat told the media that the meeting was held to entrust responsibilities to the departments engaged in laying the sewage network.

“There’s an urgent need to remove the blockages which has come in the way of the full utilization of the sewerage network,” Kamat said, while saying that directions have been issued to the agencies to make provision for house connections so that there’s no need to dig the roads again.
