Taking serious cognizance of the mound of waste at the PDA parking lot, SGPDA Chairman, MLA Wilfred D’Sa, has warned the Margao Municipal Council to either put the baling machines in place or threatened to withdraw the NOC issued to the civic body for the same.
In another development, SGPDA Member Secretary Vertika Dagur dashed off a letter to the MMC Chief Officer to immediately lift the unattended garbage piling up at the market parket lot to another location.
Saying that the waste has piled up due to the non-functioning of the baling machine installed by the MMC at the PDA parking lot, the Member Secretary said the civic body should treat the matter as urgent because of the health hazard and unhygienic condition in the area.
The SGPDA Chairman said that the authority had asked for the NOC after the Director of Municipal Administration had given direction to the MMC to install a baling machine funded by the DMA at the PDA parking lot.
“It's now months since the PDA had given the NOC, but there is no sign of the civic body treating the dry waste generated in the SGPDA market,” he said.
The PDA Chairman said that inspection of the site revealed that the MMC has not been treating the dry waste. “The MMC is not clearing the dry waste, The PDA will have no option but to issue a final notice to the MMC to either install the baling machine and start the work or we will withdraw the NOC,” he warned.
Indeed, the PDA parking lot has become an eyesore ever since the MMC had decided to install a baling machine for the treatment of dry waste. In fact, the MMC was accused in many quarters for being responsible for creating a mini-Sonsodo at the PDA parking lot.
