High drama unfolded at Arambol beach on Saturday during a raid by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB-Goa zone) forcing the NCB Superintendent Jeetendra Ranjan to fire gunshots in the air to prevent an attack on the raiding team.
NCB team led by Superintendent Ranjan, along with some personnel of Pernem Police attempted a narcotics raid at Star Shack, a shack at Arambol beach. However, the raiding party was attacked by a gang of drug peddlers from Himachal. Taken aback, Ranjan had to fire in air to dissuade the attackers.
Later at night, Pernem police booked the shack owner and his workers and around 30 unidentified persons under Sections 143, 147, 148, 332, 341, 353, 356, 504 of IPC for attacking the NCB team and obstructing them from performing their lawful duty. So far, no arrests have been made by Pernem Police.
After the incident, SP Ranjan and shack owner had filed counter-complaints at Pernem Police station accusing each other of assault.
