Shah's NRC comments threat to minorities: Congress

The Congress on Saturday approached the Chief Electoral Officer for Goa in regards to the comments made by BJP National President Amit Shah on April 11.
According to the Congress, Shah has threatened minorities, especially Christians and Muslim, through his comments.
Shah, while addressing a political rally in Darjeeling, West Bengal had said, “It is our commitment to bring in NRC across the country to chuck out each and every infiltrator. Unlike Mamata Banerjee, we don't treat infiltrators as our vote bank. For us national security is supreme. We would ensure that each and every Hindu and Buddhist refugee gets citizenship of this country.”
The Congress has specifically objected to BJP president mentioning two minority communities, thus making other minorities, especially Christians and Muslims, feel insecure. The party claims that Shah's comment have put fear and anxiety in the minds of the minorities that were not mentioned.
Party spokesperson Sunil Kawthankar has claimed that there is a fear in Goa that minorities may be targeted and dislodged from the country using the charge of being infiltrators. He further said that, this was being done to intimidate the minorities to support BJP candidates in the elections.
The Congress has urged the CEO to file a police complaint in this regards against the BJP as well as its president for creating communal tensions during the upcoming General Elections.
Shah's comment on NRC went viral on social media circles of Goa on April 11 with many people sharing a screenshot of the comment tweeted via the BJP's official Twitter handle.
Goa will be voting for its two Lok Sabha seats on April 23. Bypoll for three constituencies (Mandrem, Mapusa, Shiroda) has been scheduled for the same day, while the Panaji constituency bypoll will take place on May 19.
