Sahazin Shaikh is set to be the new chairperson of Valpoi Municipal Council (VMC), while Anil Katkar will be the new vice-chairperson.
This was decided among the BJP-backed councillors and it was also agreed that since the chairperson’s post has been reserved for women, Sahazin Shaikh and Prasanna Gawas would share the post for an equal period during the next five years.
Regarding the post of vice-chairperson Katkar is expected to serve for the first two years, before being handed over to Sheikh Faizal and Ramdas Shirodkar for a one-and half-year term each.
The councillors also decided that Sarfaraz Syed and Sharafat Khan will be elected as members of the VMC Standing Committee for two-and-half years.
According to sources, Sahazin Shaikh and Anil Katkar will file their respective nominations on Wednesday and elections to the chairperson and vice-chairperson will be conducted on April 1.
When contacted, Sahazin Shaikh assured to serve as chairperson for the all-round development of VMC and also appealed to the people of Valpoi town to support her and the council in achieving progress in the town.
