Speaking to The Goan, Valpoi police inspector Deepak Pednekar stated, “We have not summoned V K Rane on Saturday. But he is likely to be summoned over the coming days in connection with the ongoing inquiry into the allegations made against him by his former driver.”
Meanwhile, it was learnt that the police team probing this matter has questioned around 25 people so far, including those named by Rane’s former driver Ajay Ardalkar.
A video recorded by an
RTI activist on February 16 went viral on a social networking site.
The video was posted on the homepage of Goa Police on Facebook and it showed Satish alias Ajay Ardalkar alleging that he had disposed off the body of Shanu Gaonkar somewhere along the Ghat in 2006 after his employer Rane killed him by firing two shots at him outside a bar and restaurant in 2006. In the video, Ardalkar claimed that Rane killed Gaonkar on the suspicion of his involvement in the murder of his brother Prithviraj Rane on December 28. 2005. Valpoi Police had subsequently chargesheeted six persons in the murder of Prithviraj allegedly over the illegal use of stone crushers and denial of tenancy rights to the villagers. However, it has come to light that Shanu was neither among these six men nor was he booked for rioting.
Gaonkar was reported missing in 2006, and as his body has yet to be recovered, no case has been registered so far.
Rane refutes rumours of summons
VALPOI: Denying claims that he had been summoned by the police in connection with allegations that he was linked to the disappearance of Shanu Gaonkar in 2006, BJP’s Poriem candidate Vishwajit K Rane has, however, assured to cooperate with police in its ongoing investigations.
Responding to claims that he had been summoned by police in the ongoing investigations, Rane said: “I was not summoned by the police on Saturday. I did not get any official intimation from the police on Saturday.”
“But if I am officially called by police, I will definitely cooperate with the police in the ongoing investigation. But on Saturday, no such summon was sent to me to appear before the police,” clarified Rane.
It may be recalled that Satish alias Ajay Ardalkar, former driver of Vishwajit K Rane, had, in a video clip posted on the Goa Police Facebook page alleged that Vishwajit had murdered Gaonkar at a bar in Honda in 2006.
Valpoi police had said that Gaonkar had gone missing since December 3, 2006, and that, his brother, Chandrakant, had filed a missing report on December 5, 2006.
