PORVORIM
Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte on Friday reacted sharply to the district magistrate’s decision to declare a block of the Madhuban Complex at Salai in Salvador-do-Mundo as a containment zone, after 31 staffers of a casino had tested Covid positive.
Khaunte was speaking to reporters after he along with Salvador do Mundo Sarpanch Sandeep Salgaonkar and Deputy Sarpanch Reena Fernandes visited the Madhuban complex to take stock of the situation.
Khaunte also interacted with residents of other blocks at Madhuban Complex.
“It is unfair to have all Covid-affected casino staffers in one building and to declare the building as a micro-containment zone. This is a residential area and several people, both young and old, reside in blocks and buildings close by.”
“The Covid-affected staffers can spread the virus to other people in the vicinity. I will raise this issue in the Assembly and will request the government to shift the Covid-affected staffers to another place as early as possible, so that the block of the Madhuban Complex can be de-notified as a micro-containment zone,” said Khaunte.
