Shigmo celebration: snub for Mamledar

In a major snub to Ponda’s MGP MLA Lavu Mamledar, the tourism department has deleted the names of two aides of Mamledar from the Shigmotsav committee at Ponda and has, instead, replaced them with two BJP-backed councillors.

PONDA

The Ponda Shigmotsav will be celebrated on March 24.
The tourism department deleted the names of two persons closely associated to MLA Mamledar and faxed the copy of the Shigmotsav committee to Ponda Municipal Council. Subsequently, the committee offered ‘naman’ to goddess Mahalsa at Mardol.
It may be recalled that Mamledar had sent his committee list to the tourism department, including Sumit Verenkar and Diago D’Souza as secretary and treasurer respectively. But at a recent meeting with Additional Collector Damodar Morajkar, many Ponda councillors had objected to the two names for the key posts given by Mamledar. The councillors wanted them to be replaced with Shantaram Kolvekar and Vishwanath Dalvi, both BJP-backed councillors.  The tourism department revised the committee and appointed Kolvekar as secretary and Dalvi as treasurer.
