VALPOI
The Tourism Department has instructed the Valpoi Municipal Council (VMC) to conduct an inquiry into clashes between two Romtamel groups during the Valpoi Shigmotsav on March 16 and to submit a report within eight days.
During the Shigmotsav procession organised by the Tourism Department, Goa Tourism Development Corporation and the Sattari Shigmotsav Committee, clashes broke out between the Romtamel groups from Adpoi and Khandepaar at about 2.30 am, leading to injuries to some persons and creating a tense situation.
Complaints regarding the incident have been lodged at the Valpoi Police Station.
The Shigmotsav Committee intervened to defuse the tension and removed both groups from the procession before resuming the event.
Both groups were later banned from future participation in the Valpoi Shigmotsav.
Taking serious note of the incident, the tourism department has issued a formal letter to the Valpoi Municipal Council, directing authorities to submit a detailed report within eight days, covering the dispute, its impact and the confusion caused among the public. A thorough inquiry has also been ordered.
Meanwhile, the Valpoi Shigmotsav Committee has welcomed the Tourism Department’s intervention and expressed satisfaction that the matter is being taken seriously.
The committee stated that it had to face difficulties due to the dispute between the two Romtamel groups.
The committee has also appreciated the government’s decision to seek a detailed report and take necessary action.
