A strong police force was station around the venue and in the village since Saturday, as elaborate security and traffic arrangements were made by authorities.
Arrangements have also been made behind the Lairai temple to accommodate about 1,500 vehicles at a time.
The traditional Homkhand, an integral part of the festival, was ready by Saturday night and will be set ablaze during the festival, while the Dhonds will walk over the embers.
On Sunday, the ‘Kalvas’ from Mahamaya temple in Mayem will be taken in a procession to Lairai temple at Shirgao by devotees from Mayem and Vaiginim villages.
This will be followed by traditional dance of Dhonds in the temple premises.
