Various sections of Hindu Samaj in Association with Mormugao Yuva Morcha (MYM) celebrated Shiv Jayanti at Mormugao Fort on Monday.
The entire Mormugao Fort had saffron flags planted along its boundaries on the occasion. Miniature canons were also placed on columns of the fort facing the sea to symbolise the fort during the Shivaji’s Era. MYM Convenor Kiran Naik informed that they would offer a portrait of Shivaji Maharaj to the Ravindra Bhavan on the occasion of Shiv Jayanti celebrations.
Kiran Naik of MYM said the celebration of Shiv Jayanti is held every year. “The Mormugao fort was chosen because Sambhaji Maharaj, son of Shivaji Maharaj, had arrived in this fort at Mormugao with a ship during his maiden trip to Goa,” he said.
“This fort has historic importance especially with the Shivaji era and hence, we chose this location. It is around 450 years now and the people still have the love, admiration and respect for Shivaji in their hearts. Many people follow Shivaji’s ideology and consider him a role model in their lives,” said Naik.
