The Mormugao unit of Shiv Sena along with workers of Western India Shipyard Ltd on Thursday staged a peaceful demonstration in front of the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) building, demanding an impartial and thorough probe into the death of late Bismarque Dias .

They warned the government that if the bereaved family did not get justice, then they along with other like-minded parties would spread their agitation across the State.

Speaking to The Goan, trade union leader Ajitsingh Rane stated that the police and the government had failed to investigate the case thoroughly.

“The police has failed to file an FIR against unknown culprits for the murder of Dias. We urge Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar to direct the police to conduct an impartial investigation and deliver justice to late Bismarque Dias and his family,” said Rane.

“Dias was a social activist who always stood for the cause of the common man and the protection of the environment. He was a hindrance to many land sharks and there was a threat to his life as he used to support public causes.”

“The death of Dias is suspicious and the police should immediately register an FIR against unknown persons in connection with the death of Dias,” Rane added.

Rane appealed to the government to send the viscera of Dias for a second analysis to an independent forensic laboratory and if possible, to an international agency.

“If the government can avail funds from other countries, then the government can also send the viscera of Dias to an international forensic laboratory for analysis,” said Rane.
