Acting on the report of the deputy collector, Vasco police on Saturday registered an FIR against a man in connection with the death of his wife following a blast due to an LPG cylinder leakage at New Vaddem, Vasco on November 18.
An offence under 304-B IPC pertaining to dowry death has been registered Anurag Singh, a native of Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh.
According to the police FIR, Anurag Singh was accused of subjecting his wife to cruelty/ harassment over the demand of dowry to the tune of Rs 20 lakh.
On the morning of November 18, Singh is alleged to have intentionally left the LPG gas knob open to cause fire and left the house early in the morning over the pretext of shopping.
His wife, Shivani Rajawat (26), a native of Badokhar, Morena, Madhya Pradesh who was pregnant at the time, and her mother Jaidevi Chauhan (50) had sustained burn injuries with the vapour cloud explosion in a flat near Santoshi Mata temple at New Vaddem, Vasco.
Both women later succumbed to injuries and Shivani’s family had suspected foul play in the incident.
On Friday, Mormugao Dy Collector Bhagwant Karmali had submitted a 19-page report to the Vasco police station and the report included the statements of five persons, Shivani’s brother Shubham Singh Chauhan, her husband Anurag Singh, Shivani’s in-law and two persons from the building, including the flat owner and a neighbour.
