Shop burgled in Mapusa, goods worth Rs 2 lakh stolen

An unidentified thief broke into a shop in the Vaman Sadan building at Mapusa on Sunday morning and made away with equipment worth nearly Rs 2 lakh. The police have detained a suspect in connection with the case.

The shop, ‘Celltown Rubber Stamp’, located next to Suraj Book Stall, was found burgled around 9.20 am after the thief smashed the door lock with a stone to gain entry. Items stolen include a lamination machine, computer monitor, seal machine, stabiliser, and other equipment. The incident was recorded on CCTV cameras installed outside the premises.

Owner Ankush Vernekar noticed the theft around 10 am when he came downstairs and immediately alerted the police. A complaint was lodged at the Mapusa police station, following which officers rushed to the spot and conducted a panchanama.

Police later detained one person on suspicion and are interrogating him to ascertain his role in the crime.
