Shripad turns to SAGY for pathway in Keri

PONDA
Union AYUSH Minister Shripad Naik laid the foundation stone for a pathway at Nallem in Kerr-Ponda.

Minister for Art and Culture Govind Gaude was also present on this occasion.

According to a press note, Rs 16.51 lakh was earlier sanctioned for this project, but the tender was finalised at Rs 14.76 lakh.

“However, the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLAD) has been temporarily suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Hence, this work will be completed through Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY),” said Shripad Naik.

He said the project will be completed within 210 days and the footpath will benefit 20-25 families at Nallem-Keri.

The SAGY was launched on October 11, 2014, by the Prime Minister on the birth anniversary of Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan.

The scheme is considered unique and transformative as it has a holistic approach towards development. It envisages integrated development of the selected village across multiple areas such as agriculture, health, education, sanitation, environment, livelihoods, etc.

As per the SAGY, the Lok Sabha MP has to choose a panchayat from within his/her constituency. The MPs will engage with the community, facilitate the Village Development Plan and mobilise the necessary resources. The SAGY gives focus to community participation.

The MPs will also directly support activities at the village level like health camps, organising grievance redressal camps, community mobilisation, etc.
