Former Karnataka CM and senior Congress leader Siddaramiah has assured to take up the construction of Belagavi-Goa NH4A on priority, to improve connectivity between Belagavi and North Karnataka region.
Speaking to The Goan while on a two-day visit to flood affected areas of Belagavi district, Siddaramiah said people in the region have been suffering due to the dilapidated and incomplete highway.
“Despite demand from both the states, the BJP government has ignored the problems faced by commuters from Goa and North Karnataka region and also the local villagers.”
“Elected BJP representatives are also giving false assurances to people of the region about the funds sanctioned. However, no funds have been sanctioned to take up even the repair of the highway,” said Siddaramiah.
Earlier speaking to media persons in Khanapur Siddaramiah said the matter of the damaged NH4A and bridge near Londa would be also taken up on priority with the Union Ministry for surface transport.
“I have asked local authorities and MLA Anjali Nimbalkar to submit a detail report on the condition of the bridge. It will be taken up with authorities at the national level,” said Siddaramiah, when the matter was brought to his notice.
He claimed that whatever little budget sanctioned for repairs of the dilapidated highway was due to efforts of Khanapur MLA Anjali Nimbalakar and condemned the negligence of local BJP MP Hegde.
Speaking further he also ascertained that he would be requesting Union Minister for Surface Transport Nitin Gadkari to take take up the completion work of the NH4A on priority.
