Corporation of the City of Panaji Mayor Surendra Furtado has appealed to the tenants of the Panaji Municipal Market to sign lease agreements with the CCP at the earliest. He has said that the signing of lease agreements cannot be stretched further as the matter is being monitored by the High Court on a regular basis.
The matter of lease agreements had come up for discussion at the ordinary meeting of the CCP on Tuesday.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Furtado said, "The lease agreement has been finalised. It has been approved by the Law Department. I want to send a loud and clear message to market tenants that we are not against anybody and we want all of them to carry out their businesses."
Speaking further, he said, "You (tenants) pay us the rent and carry out the business. We have to keep the market clean and also the fixtures have not been maintained. We require the money. I don't know which force is stopping them to come to CCP and sign the
agreements."
Pointing out that the CCP cannot delay signing of lease agreements with market tenants, he said, "We cannot stretch signing of the agreements for too long because the High Court is monitoring the situation every three months. So far none of the market tenants have signed any lease agreements with the CCP."
CCP Commissioner to probe issuance of forged birth certificate
PANAJI: CCP Mayor Surendra Furtado has asked the CCP Commissioner to initiate an inquiry into the alleged issuance of a forged birth certificate by CCP officials.
"I was told that a week back one birth certificate was issued without any documents of the year 1990. And it was issued for a sum of Rs 20,000. I have brought this to the notice of the commissioner. I have told him to call NIC officials and do the needful. I have also asked him to check the CCTV footage and find out which was the staff on duty. Tampering with such data cannot be tolerated," said Furtado.
