Silveira made a winning comeback with 8,087 votes, well ahead of Ramrao Wagh (3,017), Jagdish Bhobe of MGP (2,393) and Dhaku Madkaikar (1,285).
The other candidates who failed to make any significant impact were Rama Kankonkar of AAP (979), Dattaram Chari of NCP (325), Simao Caiado (143), Sunil Kerkar (97),
Leocardio Monteiro of Goa Su-Raj Party (47) and Ashwin Rosario (29). The NOTA votes were 152.
This is Silveira’s fourth time as MLA, after he was defeated by BJP’s Vishnu Wagh in 2012.
Speaking to reporters, Silveira said his opponents, including those within the Congress party, had never taken him seriously and he had proved them wrong.
“There was opposition within Congress to give me ticket this time after I had lost the 2012 elections. But by wining this time, I have proved that a defeated candidate can win again,” said Silveira.
People from St Andre elected me once again and I will try my best to fulfill their aspirations,” he said.
