Touted as the ‘bridge to nowhere’, the Mandur bridge is in the news yet again as the platform connecting the rear end of the bridge is sinking.

Highlighting the same, AAP leader Ramrao Wagh said that it’s been only seven months that the bridge was completed and since the past several days it is noticed that the platform laid for the rear end of the bridge is sinking.

“As it is, the bridge doesn’t serve the purpose it was built for and now the sinking platform. From conceptualisation to its completion, the bridge is surrounded by controversy which is the reason why nobody wants to inaugurate the same,” Wagh chided.

“This bridge is a white elephant and crores of money has gone down the drain. Now more money will be wasted in re-constructing the sinking platform,” Wagh informed.

Wagh then demanded that the contractor who built the platform should be blacklisted and the GSIDC should ensure the contractor re-builds the platform at his own cost.

Meanwhile, Mandur Sarpanch Prashant Naik said the panchayat will write to authorities concerned about the sinking platform.

“The Ganesh festival is fast approaching and the idol immersion is done near the bridge. If people enter the platform of the bridge and it collapses then a major calamity could happen,” Naik added.

“Also, some persons come with their vehicles during night time. That time, there is a possibility of mishap happening if anybody drives their vehicles towards the platform which has sunk more than 30 cms,” Naik said.
