MARGAO: Sinquerim SC secured a convincing 2-0 victory over Ambelim SC to storm into the semifinals of the 27th All Goa Our Lady of Merces Inter-Village Football Tournament at the Chinchinim Church Ground.
After a closely fought opening, Sinquerim broke the deadlock in the 28th minute of the first half when Uttam Sawant finished clinically to hand his side a 1-0 lead at the interval.
Ambelim SC pressed for an equaliser after the restart, but Sinquerim goalkeeper Yogendra Nagvenkar produced a string of outstanding saves to thwart repeated efforts from Blasco Fernandes and Samson Fernandes, preserving his team's advantage.
Sinquerim put the result beyond doubt in the 40th minute of the second half when Aiyan Shaik unleashed a powerful right-footed strike to double the lead and seal a comfortable 2-0 win.
With the victory, Sinquerim SC progressed to the semifinals, where they will take on CRCC Chinchinim on August 8.
