Siolim locals are up in arms against a multi-dwelling complex that is allegedly releasing its sewage water in the open on the public road.
Incensed villagers gathered in front of the complex on Sunday morning and threatened the inmates of the complex for intimidating one of the locals.
The villagers of Modlem-bhatt, Siolim have also filed a police complaint against one of the flat owners for threatening the local.
Anjuna Police have lodged a non-cognizable offence in the matter.
The locals informed that the complex with over 70 flats has been allegedly releasing its sewage water in the open for the last more than six months.
“During the monsoon we could not spot the difference. But soon after it stopped raining we could make out that darkish dirty water from the complex was released by the road side inconveniencing people using the road,” said Suraj Chodankar, a local.
He said the alleged sewage water was released either late in the night or early in the morning.
The local further informed that on Saturday late evening when he noticed the sewage water flowing on the road, he confronted the flat owner who became aggressive and charged at him.
“I lodged a complaint against the flat owner with the police and later informed the villagers about the incident,” Chodankar said.
On Sunday morning, several villagers gathered in front of the building complex to protest against the behaviour of the flat owner.
“We have no problem if the flat owners follow all laws and live in harmony with the locals. Just because I asked him about the release of sewage water he came to hit me. Don’t we have a right to question if someone does wrong?” said Chodankar, who is a headmaster of a school in the village.
Social worker, Nilesh Vernekar said that locals will no longer take things lying down and warned those who try to act tough with the villagers.
