The Siolim-Marna panchayat secretary on Sunday informed the gram sabha that the panchayat was expected to commence door-to-door collection of wet and dry garbage in the village, very soon.
“We will appoint a contractor to collect garbage on July 17. We request the villagers to segregate the wet and dry waste separately which will be collected on a daily basis,” said Subhash Kambli, panchayat secretary while addressing the gram sabha.
He also said that the panchayat will be distributing garbage bins to every household in the village.
A villager, Amrut Agarwadekar objected to kiosks/moveable carts which were parked on the roadside as they posed threat to commuters and pedestrians.
“These kiosks/moveable carts have encroached on government land and the panchayat is not getting any revenue from them. The panchayat should remove them immediately,” Agarwadekar said.
The panchayat secretary informed that road safety committee has submitted a detailed report about various spots that have to be cleared and the same will be adopted by the panchayat.
Another villager and a member of road safety committee, Joaquim Barros suggested that the illegal kiosk/stalls which have come up before the church should be given time to be removed voluntarily else action should be taken as per the law.
Some villagers slammed the sarpanch for failing to take adequate measures in announcing the gram sabha meeting so that the locals are made aware.
They suggested that an advertisement be published in a local English and vernacular newspaper besides making announcement in the village through loud speaker and pasting notices at public places. Sarpanch Monali Pednekar assured to take appropriate measures for the next gram sabha meeting.
Panchayat to call for meeting with
power officials
MAPUSA: Siolim-Marna panchayat decided to hold a special meeting with power officials to discuss and find a solution to frequent power interruptions in the village.
A gram sabha member raised the issue of frequent power cuts in the village and demanded clarification on the issue.
The panchayat secretary said panchayat has nothing to do with power supply but following the demand of the villagers it was resolved to convey a joint meeting with electricity department officials to discuss problems and find solutions to the power issue.
