The Siolim-Marna sarpanch informed the gram sabha on Sunday that the panchayat has proposed to carry out beautification of various religious places in different wards in the village.
“The panch members will identify the religious places in their respective wards which will then be taken up for various beautification works by the village panchayat,” said Monali Pednekar, Sarpanch of Siolim-Marna.
When a local questioned how many such religious places will be taken up for beautification, the sarpanch informed that no final decision has been taken yet on the figure. The sarpanch informed the gram sabha that the panchayat has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Welfare for Animals in Goa (WAG) to tackle stray cattle menace in the village.
Atul Sarin of WAG who was present for the gram sabha explained how the scheme to manage the stray cattle was implemented by the organization.
A gram sabha member, Gregory D’Souza urged the sarpanch to expedite the matter so that action can be taken on the stray cattle as it causes nuisance on roads.
The sarpanch also informed that the door-to-door garbage collection file has been pending before the Director of Panchayat.
She said the revised rate of Rs 23 lakh for door-to-door garbage collection has been approved but has been stuck for want of director of panchayat’s sanction.
When Gregory D’Souza asked whether any method has been adopted to collect waste from high-rise buildings, the sarpanch answered in the negative.
The sarpanch informed that the panchayat had identified a place at Dando and commenced construction of a building at the site.
She said the structure will double up to house a control room and rehabilitation for disaster management in the village.
