SIT arrests 2 in land grab cases

PANAJI

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Friday arrested a local on charges of property fraud. Thirty-three-year-old Estevan D’Souza from Goa Velha is accused of illegally transferring property in Anjuna in connivance with two others, who are named in the FIR initially registered with the Mapusa police.

The matter pertains to 2020 when Fleur Butler Freitas of Guirim alleged that Maria Rosa D’souza e Gomes, Antonio Gomes and Estevan D’souza impersonated the original owners to transfer the property in other individual/s’ names.

With this arrest, the SIT has not ruled out more arrests as the role of government officials related to the matter has also come under scrutiny.

In another case, the SIT arrested Yashwant Sukhthankar, aged 48 years, for allegedly cheating an original owner of Assagao property. The case earlier registered with Fatorda police was recently transferred to the SIT.
