The Special Investigation Team (SIT - Land Grab) has arrested a man accused of forging his deceased father’s signature to falsely claim nearly 70,000 sq metres of Communidade land in

Succorro village.

Vithu Nagvekar, 48, was arrested under sections of the Indian Penal Code for cheating, forgery, impersonation, and criminal conspiracy. The case was first registered and investigated by the

Mapusa police.

The complaint, filed by Eurico Mascarenhas, says that Vithu Nagvekar and others – Alisha Nagvekar, Ranjeet Salgaonkar (then Joint Mamlatdar-II, Bardez), Rohan Kaskar (then Administrator of the Communidade of North Zone, Mapusa), and Agnelo Lobo (Attorney of the Communidade of Serula) – worked together to impersonate the late Madhukar Vithurai Nagvekar and change land records illegally.

Superintendent of Police (SIT) Rahul Gupta said the accused forged an application dated 17 November 2017 in the name of the deceased. Using this, they fraudulently got a No Objection Certificate and mutation approval. They then removed the original owner’s name from government records and added the names of Vithu and Alisha, cheating the Communidade of Serula and other authorities.

The land involved covers Survey Nos. 221/1, 222/1, and 233/1, with a total area of 69,675 sq metres.
