Verna police have registered a case against a site engineer after a labourer fell to his death from an under-construction building at Sancoale, injuring a minor girl on the ground floor.
Police said the incident occurred on November 3 at MVR Homes, Vidhyanagar, Sancoale, when the site engineer, identified as Avinash Magadum, allegedly failed to provide adequate safety measures to labourers working at the site.
In the absence of proper protection, a worker, Tabrej Alam from Goa Velha and a native of Bihar, reportedly slipped from the third floor — a height of around 12 metres — and fell on a minor girl who was bathing on the ground floor. Alam succumbed to his injuries, while the girl sustained multiple injuries and is undergoing treatment at GMC, Bambolim.
Following the incident, Verna police registered a case against Magadum under Sections 106(1) and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Further investigation is being carried out by LPSI Pramila Fernandes under the supervision of PI Anand Shirodkar and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
