Vasco Police Inspector Kapil Nayak assured that the situation was under control after a major fuel pipeline connecting the port to the Zuari IAV Private Limited tanking facility was damaged during excavation work carried out by an NHAI contractor at Dabolim Junction on Friday afternoon
“There is no major threat at the moment. Authorities are present, and all necessary precautions are being taken,” he stated.
Vasco Traffic PI Shailesh Narvekar confirmed that traffic had been diverted to ensure public safety.
“We have re-routed vehicles via Chicalim and Vishal Mega Mart Road. Once we receive a clearance from authorities concerned, normal traffic flow will resume,” he explained.
Mormugao Mamlatdar Pravinjay Pandit also visited the site and confirmed precautionary measures were in place.
“The immediate threat has been averted, but as a safety measure, traffic was diverted. We have obtained a written assurance from Zuari IAV that repair work poses no danger to residents or commuters. A meeting will be convened with the contractor to ensure better coordination and prevent future mishaps,” he stated.
With repairs set to begin, authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure public safety and prevent further disruptions.
No fuel crisis in State: Co
VASCO: The Zuari IAV Private Limited has assured that there is no immediate fuel crisis on account of the damage to the fuel pipeline during excavation work at Dabolim Junction.
“There is no immediate fuel crisis, as fuel stocks will last another 10 days. However, the damage will take up to four days to repair,” said Shriprasad Nayak, Terminal Manager of Zuari IAV Private Limited.
“We will assess the damage and begin repairs immediately. Traffic can continue moving while work is carried out. A ship carrying fuel is scheduled to arrive on Saturday, but given the damage, we may need to defer its arrival,” Nayak said.
