Six bridges submerged in Belagavi district

BELAGAVI

Six bridges over the Krishna tributaries have been submerged following a relentless downpour in the Western Ghats region of Maharashtra as well as in Chikkodi and Nipani talukas over the past few days.

Heavy rainfall in Maharashtra has also caused many rivers in Karnataka’s border districts to overflow.

In Belagavi district, there is a huge surge in the flow of main rivers like Krishna, Malaprabha, Hiranyakeshi, Ghataprabha, Vedganga, and Doodhganga. As a result, six bridges”Malikwad-Dattawad, Barawad-Kunnur, Karadaga-Bhoj, and Bhojwadi-Hunnaragi among them”are now under water. The water levels are rising by the minute, raising the possibility of more bridges becoming submerged.

Torrential rainfall in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra has also resulted in the full flow of the famous Gokak waterfalls, presenting a mesmerising sight.

Due to heavy rainfall in the Western Ghats, the inflow in the Ghataprabha and Malaprabha rivers has significantly increased leading to a flood-like situation. With each passing day, the volume of water flowing through Gokak Falls continues to rise, enhancing its scenic charm.
